Today we started out with a hardy breakfast around the Womantours van near our hotel in downtown Portland. We loaded up with snacks of fruit, power bars, and/or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a fairly short ride to Troutdale. Heading out of bike friendly Portland on city streets, we soon turned onto the bike trail which heads along the Willamette River.

The photographers from Womantours were waiting for us to take a group shot along the river. After several photo opts, we headed out of the city. The first half of the ride went back onto side streets in quiet neighborhoods on the outshirts of Portland. We entered another bike trail which followed the Columbia River for awhile. The view was hazy because of the heat.
We arrived in Troutdale by 11AM, too early to get into our Holiday Inn Express. There is not a whole lot to do in Troutdale, especially in your bike clothes! We rode our bikes to McMenamins, a brewery nearby. There we had lunch and tried to stay cool as the temperature was rising into the 90's. McMenamins occupies the buildings of what used to be the county poor house. We finally were able to get into our hotel rooms around 3 PM. Todays stats: 27.29 miles -avg 11.3 miles per hour. We were really meandering to waste time! Tonight our chef is preparing us something delicious and we will have a meeting about the ride tomorrow. We will be heading to Hood River, 54 miles.
